China Plans New National-Security Laws for Hong Kong

HONG KONG—China signaled it will impose new nationwide-safety laws on Hong Kong, dealing a blow to the territory’s autonomy as Beijing seeks to stamp out common professional-democracy protests that have challenged chief Xi Jinping.

Beijing’s lawmakers will overview a resolution to established up and enhance authorized and enforcement mechanisms for nationwide safety in Hong Kong, with thought to “new circumstances and requirements,” a spokesman for the legislature said at a briefing on Thursday, without the need of elaborating.
